the age when he learned to pull a horse trailer? is 16 young?
so im 15 now and will turn 16 soon and get my license. We have a van (which only works sometimes) and two horse trailers. My parents are tired of taking me to shows on weekends so I thought she could learn to lead yourself and go to my own shows. How old were you (if) you have to learn to take one? years ago that nobody goes to 16-18 shown themselves?
I do not think anyone has enough experience to pull a horse trailer until they have had at least five years experience on driving. Unfortunately, at 16, who are still learning and not very experienced. Have not developed the skills necessary to navigate defensive driving in a 100% secure, so I definitely can not handle a trailer. This is really up to you and your family. But to be honest, I think is a bad idea. I've had my license for about 4 months now and I would not feel comfortable with my riding in the back of a trailer I'm pulling. I know that if I had to make a decision fraction second, I probably would be wrong, because when you are pulling a trailer with livestock, changes everything. Be prepared to make quick decisions without brakes hard or fast, without deviation. These decisions are difficult enough in a car, let alone a big pickup with a trailer on the back. I think if I had to pull a trailer of horses and had to make a quick decision that would end up hurting myself, or worse, my horse! That's a risk I'm willing to take. However, know their abilities, and although I do not think that should lead to their age, if you're willing to take risks, and are confident of their abilities, then more power to you. I do not advise it, but it's your choice. I never go to shows without an adult. If I were to fall, and I had nobody knew it, then we have serious problems in touch with my parents. And if something were to happen to the horse, who could not fix on my own, I do not know what to do. I also think that the support I receive from my family and friends in the sample, is part of what keeps me motivated, and making it fun. Anyway, at shows, if you are under 18 years required to have an adult with you. This is because you are underage, and the adult must check in and sign all release forms. Again, this is all up you and your family, and what you feel comfortable, but that's just my opinion. Hope I helped! Good luck! ~ Hannah
